SOLUTIONS FOR
ENCLOSURE ENGINEERING
PROBLEMS

GB Mentors will discreetly remedy your enclosure engineering problems.

We shall find the true root-cause, develop a real-world solution and implement it efficiently to improve your bottom line immediately.

Note that surfaces must be cleaned if an interior air volume is shared between people due to Covid-19 related new regulations and user expectations. These include surfaces handled by users such as keyboards, touch-screens, input devices for instance mice, handles like hair dryers, buttons and many others. This in turn creates a special challenge for electronic housings.

COVID-19 & ELECTRONICS

COVID
Covid-19 can kill you; disinfectants disrupt transmission but in the process damage current electronic enclosures.

Disinfectants and hand sanitizers significantly altered plastic selection practices.

Important to note that SARS-CoV-2 can persist and remain infectious on surfaces for at least 9 days. Therefore, surface and deep cleaning is necessary to control transmission.

Interruption of the transmission chain of the virus is possible through strict infection control tools. Experts believe that the new cleaning regimes will remain utilized even after the pandemic is declared to be over as other corona viruses require similar strategies and COVID-19 very likely will remain active for a long period.

Success of hand sanitization depends on the use of effective hand disinfecting agents formulated as antimicrobial soaps, or alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Disinfectants and special medical grade cleaning agents are often encountered by electronic enclosures.

Most effective hand sanitizer products contain 62%–95% of alcohol. Other aggressive chemicals are also used in the formulation of disinfectants and hand sanitizers. Trace amounts of many harmless chemicals can also have a devastating effect as they might act as catalysts and thus aid in the destruction of otherwise sound enclosures.

New surface and deep cleaning practices highlighted vulnerabilities of many thermoplastic materials to sustained exposure to disinfectants and hand sanitizers, especially in PC/ABS housings and enclosures. Thus, commonly utilized materials no longer perform satisfactorily. Therefore, successful materials selection practices have quickly became the exclusive domain of the enclosure engineering professional.

Plastic Failures

CRACKED, BROKEN OR FAILED PLASTIC PARTS RUINED YOUR ELECTRONICS?

GB Mentors will correct your electronic housings and cases promptly and discreetly. We will never release information about your enclosure problems in a way that could identify your products as faulty. Most importantly, we will craft a solid competitive advantage out of your technical issues.

Solving the Problem of Cracking Plastics

GB Mentors utilizes four different approaches to solve the problem of cracking and breaking plastics in electronic enclosures and housings. (Similar problems in packaging warrant the use of an entirely different methodology.) The four approaches for cracking and breaking thermoplastics are as follows:

The next chart displays the approximate ratio of the various approaches used in correcting cracking and breaking electronic enclosure and housing parts.

Management

GB Mentors provide Enclosure Engineering based change management to improve your new product development (NPD) and new product introduction (NPI) processes.

However, the GB Mentors interim management program is focused on solving real-world challenges such as the materials issues associated with COVID-19.

GB Mentors have solved many problems that original equipment manufacturers (OEM) have struggled with.

An example is a problem that was reoccurring over a period of a decade. The OEM’s staff have recorded finding the root-cause no less than a half a dozen times only to find the problem to resurface. Ultimately the OEM faced a very costly recall.

GB Mentors have identified the real root-cause in two weeks ending uncertainty and re-establishing corporate profitability.

Innovation

Innovation

The founder of GB Mentors has also improved on the science of innovation management, specifically with respect to applied Innovation Wave Theory.

This means that your NPD process is not only expertly guided by GB Mentors but also that new innovation waves are leveraged into maximum profitability.

Technology
Technology

Technology

Technology is nothing more than a collection of methods to ultimately improve corporate profitability.

GB Mentors use proprietary methods to develop actionable insights.

The use of analysis tools such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), plastic flow analysis and others are also supplemented with the use of laboratory equipment such as differential scanning calorimeters (DSC), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), universal testing machines, capillary rheometers and many others.

GB Mentors only use the right equipment to produce the best results in the shortest possible time frame.

Requirements
Requirements

Requirements

User requirements must be turned into product specifications that engineers can understand.

This fundamental step is often completed without an understanding of the differences between qualitative and quantitative research methodologies; thus, endangering your NPD efforts from the very start.

GB Mentors have developed a world leading methodology to successfully address these issues.

NPD
NPD

New Product Development (NPD)

The “devil” is in the detail. Many products suffer from inadequate attention to detail.

GB Mentors creates actionable insights by performing a very specific Design Review.

This in turn shortens your NPD process, lowers your capital requirement and creates a more durable and better performing product thereby increasing your profitability.
